Here comes the rain…

During the middle of the day yesterday Cyclone Debbie hit north Queensland!  Enormous amount of damage has been made, but fortunately no fatalities!

A day later and these coastal towns are now receiving even more large volumes of rain, and it is heading south down the coast towards Brisbane.

The big 50

Well that big birthday came around quickly!  I’ve celebrated a milestone birthday this week by turning 50.  How that came around so quickly I don’t know!

I’ve decided to celebrate my birthday for the entire month of March.  So far I’ve been out for two breakfast, a champagne afternoon tea, birthday cake with work colleagues and a family dinner.  There’s still a couple of more dinners to go.

I wasn’t really looking forward to this big day at all, but have just decided to embrace it.  We have a lot of exciting changes happening at the moment, so I’m just going to go with the flow.50th birthday flowers

It’s going to be a great year! I can’t wait.

Birthday flowers and champagne – what more could a girl want!

The Camper Trailer Blanket…

Well I’ve finally finished a WIP for 2017.  I started this blanket in 2016 in an effort to use up lots of leftover yarn.

I’m happy to say I managed to use up most of the leftovers and only need to purchase two extra balls of light coloured yarn just to lighten it up a little.

I’m really happy with having completed this little blanket.  It will be going into the camper trailer as a bed topper or just to snuggle with on cold winter nights around and open fire.

We will be heading into inland Northern New South Wales in May.  I’m hoping the weather may have cooled down a bit by then.  As I’m writing up this post it is being forecast to reach 34C in Brisbane.  Some one needs to tell the weather it’s autumn now not summer!!

The Vegi Garden

With the incredible heat we have had this summer in Brisbane, my poor old vegi garden hasn’t seen too much action.  I’ve still had herbs growing, but not much else has survived.  I did try some lettuce, but the soon bolted to seed!

Look how dry and brittle those poor herbs look

With the beginning of autumn, I thought now might be the time to start growing something extra in this little garden.  I bought some seedlings to get things growing quicker rather then starting with seeds.  I really enjoy growing and using herbs so I added some parsley and basil to the mix.  I also bought some lettuce and zucchini to plant out too!

I gave the bed a good dig to loosen it up first, I must feed it.  It is dry!

Happy little plants waiting to be watered

I’m limiting what I plant this season.  I’m just going to stick to the vegies I’ve had success in growing.  Nothing more frustrating when you plant out a whole garden full and nothing really flourishing.  I have plenty of success with these crops.  I must get some asian greens too!

Here’s to some cooler weather and some rain would be helpful too!
